Colorado began their search for a new college football coach Wednesday, a day after firing Dan Hawkins.

Hawkins, who spend four-plus seasons in Boulder, never had a winning season with the Buffaloes. The 50-year-old finished his career at Colorado with a 19-39 overall record, leaving behind a team that never quite lived up to expectations.
With the impending move to the Pac-10 next year, the univerisity turns its attention to finding a suitable replacement that will rebuild the Colorado program.
Wednesday, Colorado chancellor Phil DiStefano talked with local media about who he would want to see coaching the Buffaloes next season.
DiStefano said he’d like to see “a coach who is either successful now as a head coach or has recent coaching experience either with someone from the Pac 12 or the Big 12. Somebody in a conference similar to, if not equal to, the conference that we’re joining.”
He also reiterrated that the coaching decision would be left up to athletic director Mike Bohn.
Bohn noted that he has already had some interest in the position including former Colorado head coach Bill McCartney and current interim coach Brian Cabral.
LSU’s Les Miles and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden have also been mentioned as possible candidates.
Also mentioned is Air Force coach Troy Calhoun, former Oregon coach and ESPN commentator Mike Belliotti.
