Lund, largest archbishopric, Sweden

Lund is the second oldest town in Sweden. The construction of the town’s cathedral began in the 12th century and later Lund became the seat of the largest archbishopric in Europe. The Swedes took over the region in the late 17th century and founded the university. Nowadays Lund is a relaxed university town, much of medieval still survives today. Must-see attraction in Lind is also the famous Romanesque cathedral, the Domkyrkan.
The Historiska Museet is not far away and has a permanent collection of exhibits dating from the pre-Viking times, including a 7,000-year-old skeleton. Apart from around 40 houses, some of which date back to the 17th century, there is a permanent china exhibition as well as frequently changing temporary exhibitions.
Lund, like the rest of southern Sweden, has an oceanic climate. Despite its northern location, the climate is relatively mild. Summers are warm and pleasant.Winters are cold, with temperatures steady between -1 to 3 degrees Celsius. Lund has been praised for its cycling infrastructure. There are 5000 bike parking spaces in the town, featuring a multi-storey facility. There has been no increase in car usage for the past 10 years. Lund also has a city theatre (though without a local ensemble of its own) and a number of other places for concerts and theatres.
The town also hosts the largest open-air museum of Scania, Kulturen. Kulturen is the second oldest dedicated open-air museum in the world and consists of more than 30 buildings, as well as large collections on Scanian art, crafts. local archaeology and history. The museum was founded in 1892 by Georg Karlin. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in Lund, ranging from cheap student fare to more sophisticated dining. Lund is also reputed to have some of the most varied nightlife in the region.
